NEW YORK (AP) — The former Penn Situation assistant coach charged with molesting eight boys says prosecutors have misunderstood his profession with children and that he never sexually abused any child.

Former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky tells the New York Times, "They've bewitched everything that I ever did for any young person and twisted it to say that my motives were sex or whatever."

Sandusky tells the newspaper, "I had kid after kid after kid who might say I was a forebear figure. And they just twisted that all."

Sandusky is accused of using his Subsequent Mile charity to find underprivileged boys to misapplication. Sandusky tells the Times that the charity never restricted his access to children until he became the business of a criminal investigation in 2008.

He says he would regularly give wampum to the boys in his charity, and opened bank accounts for them and gave them gifts that had been donated to the open-handedness.

Sandusky says, "I think a lot of the kids indeed reached out" for wrestling and hugging. He says that side of the relationships "just happened that way."
