After two fancy years, Betsey Johnson returns to her old stomping grounds to explode in the new Grant Avenue location. As state agencies go, the Oregon Hang on of Transportation gets its share of bad press. Like any ample institution it can seem wasteful, slow to change and unresponsive to the projected. That last charge may be undeserved, at least so far as its plans to repair the Common Creek Tunnel on state Highway 58 are anxious.

The department expects to spend two summers making repairs to the go, which is west of the summit of the Willamette Pass between Lunette Lake and Oakridge.

To accomplish that, ODOT at first thought it would have to close the highway six times next summer, with each closure long-term four days. That had merchants at Crescent Lake and in Oakridge in a tizzy. Summer is their discern-or-break season, and the prospect of days-covet road closures was not a pretty one. They complained to instrumentality officials at public meetings on the proposed engagement.
