Teens looking to uphold a sun-kissed glow this winter must look beyond the tanning beds as of Jan. 1. 

On Oct. 9, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law that bans teens younger than age 18 from using indoor tanning beds. 

Until the law takes at bottom, teens between the ages of 14 and 18 may pursue to use tanning beds with permission from their parents. 

Len Bickford, proprietress of Club Tan in Napa, said the new law eliminates parental rights and will beguile teens to unsafe tanning practices. 

“This new law removes the controlled environs and the guidance of highly trained technicians — leaving teens at higher risk for overexposure outdoors or in accommodations tanning units,” Bickford said. 

He said the portion of his customers under age 18 is “small,” and it was too near the start to know how the new law would affect his business.

While many states have tanning restrictions, California is the first shape in the nation to ban the use of tanning beds for people under 18.
