A abode of hope, a place of rest and a place for cogitation, the Hope Cancer Retreat offers a responsibility for patients with cancer to stay during treatment that is much diverse than a hotel.

The retreat was founded in 2003 in Splendora by Jenny and Larry Jackson after they had already dealt with Larry’s first round with cancer.

The couple detected a lump which doctors first scheme was a hernia but which turned out to be two types of lymphoma.

“I knew nothing about cancer. I did not even distinguish what lymphoma was when he was diagnosed. He was treated at MD Anderson in the Medical Center with chemotherapy and emission. That is where we met other patients who had driven miles and miles for treatment and either had to stopover in a hotel or find an affordable place to stay,” Jenny said.

Since both Larry and Jenny wanted to aid others who are going through the same thing while providing them a place to sojourn, they decided to construct Hope Cancer Shelter.

The center recently received its 501(c)3 nonprofit eminence which means all donations are tax-exempt.
