CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Mecklenburg county commissioner is hoping to mutate local hotel regulations after discovering a means of escape that allows some hotels to avoid treating for bed bugs.
Chrissenda Bennett suspected she'd been bitten by a bug when she woke up presentiment itchy.
"I was just scratching everywhere," said Bennett.
As it turns out, there were bed bugs in her motor hotel room.
She showed WBTV camerawoman Sarah Batista the bite marks on her arms and neck.
Bennett was treated at the danger room with a shot of Benadryl.
"The bites had gotten big and turgid and were really itchy," said Bennett.
She later contacted the Mecklenburg County trim department to report the infestation.
But there's a intractable.
The hotel where she stayed on Independence Boulevard is classified as weekly, which means it's not regulated by the county.
"And even though they distinguish they have a known bed bug infestation they just ignore the whole possession" said Mecklenburg County Commissioner Bill James.
